The Swiss Phenology Day took place on 8 April 2016 in Frick at the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL. Under the theme "Phenology in agriculture", it was made clear that knowledge of the seasonal activity of pests plays a major role in plant protection, so that the right measures can be applied at the right time in a targeted and efficient manner. Another major topic was the cherry vinegar fly, which is native to Southeast Asia and was discovered in Switzerland in 2011. It attacks ripening fruits such as cherries, grapes and various berries. Research helps to better understand the seasonal activity of this pest and to visualise the seasonal suitability of the different hosts. With this knowledge, appropriate crop protection strategies are developed.
